PDF to Word

PDF to editable DOCX—solid results for everyday documents; scans get OCR before Word

What This Tool Does

Use this when someone emailed you a PDF and you actually need to change the words—not just read them. We turn the file into a Microsoft Word–style DOCX you can edit. If the PDF was exported from Word or Google Docs, you’ll usually get a clean document. If it’s a scan or a photo saved as PDF, we run text recognition first; that works best on straight, readable pages. Fancy magazine layouts or packed tables might need a few minutes of cleanup afterward—that’s normal for every converter, not a bug unique to one site. Conversion runs on our servers over HTTPS (not inside the tab), we delete the file from our side after you download, and we don’t add watermarks.

When Should You Use This Tool?

  • When you need to extract and edit text from a PDF document that you can't edit directly
  • When converting scanned documents or images to editable text format
  • When you need to reuse content from a PDF in a Word document or presentation
  • When transforming forms or templates from PDF into editable Word format
  • When you need to convert protected or locked PDFs to editable format (if you have permission)

Security & Privacy

Your privacy and security are our top priorities. All PDF to Word processing is designed with security-first principles.

  • Files are processed securely: Many tools run entirely in your browser. For heavier conversions, files are sent over HTTPS to our servers only for processing and are deleted immediately afterward—we do not store them.
  • Files are auto-deleted: Any files processed on our servers (for advanced operations) are automatically deleted immediately after processing. We don't store your files.
  • No signup required: Use our tools instantly without creating an account. No email, no passwords, no personal information required.
  • No file storage: We don't save, archive, or store your files. Once processing is complete, files are permanently removed from our systems.

OCR for scans

When a page is really an image, we recognize text so you’re not retyping it. Crisp scans beat blurry photos; expect to proofread anything with small print or stamps.

Key Features

  • Turns text-based PDFs into editable DOCX—layouts usually come through well for typical reports and letters
  • Handles many scans by running text recognition so you’re not retyping pages
  • Keeps tables, images, and headings in roughly the same order as the PDF (complex designs may need a quick cleanup)
  • Outputs standard DOCX you can open in Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice
  • Runs on a secure conversion backend when the browser alone isn’t enough for Office fidelity

Common Use Cases

Editing a contract or form someone sent you as a flat PDF

Pulling copy out of an old scan for a new version of a document

Fixing typos or filling fields without screenshotting every page

Getting a Word draft before pasting sections into another template

Expert Tips

  • Text-based PDFs convert more cleanly than phone photos of paper—export from the original app when you can
  • After conversion, skim tables and columns; merged cells and odd layouts are where tools stumble
  • For scans, use straight, well-lit images; crooked pages confuse OCR more than anything else
  • If something looks wrong, try exporting the PDF again from the source—sometimes the PDF itself is messy

How It Works

  1. 1

    Upload your PDF

Drag in the file or browse—there’s a per-file size limit on the uploader so the conversion can finish without timing out.

  2. 2

    Server-side conversion

We send the PDF securely to our backend, run the conversion (including OCR when the page is basically an image), and prepare a DOCX.

  3. 3

    Quick check in Word

Open the DOCX and skim headings and tables—complex layouts sometimes need a small tidy-up, which is normal for any PDF-to-Word flow.

  4. 4

    Download and use

Save the DOCX locally and edit in Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice like any other document.

Frequently Asked Questions about PDF to Word

How do I convert PDF to Word?

Upload your PDF, wait for processing, then download the DOCX. The heavy lifting runs on our servers (encrypted in transit); we don’t keep your file after you download the result.

Will formatting be preserved?

Usually yes for simple documents—fonts, paragraphs, and tables often survive intact. Dense layouts, multi-column magazines, or weird PDF exports may need a few manual fixes in Word afterward.

Can I convert scanned PDFs to Word?

Yes. Scanned pages go through text recognition first. Clear scans convert better; fuzzy photos or handwriting will always be hit-or-miss.

Is PDF to Word conversion free?

Yes—no watermarks and no account required. Each upload has a size limit shown on the page so conversions stay reliable.

What Word format will I get?

You'll receive a DOCX file (Microsoft Word 2007+ format), which is compatible with all modern word processors including Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and LibreOffice.

Can I convert password-protected PDFs?

You need to unlock the PDF first (enter the password when asked, or use our unlock flow). We can’t convert what we can’t read.

How accurate is the conversion?

Digital text in the PDF usually comes across very accurately. Scanned content depends on resolution and contrast—expect to proofread anything important.
